....I kept remembering all the fish I "used" to catch when I nymph fished 90% of the time. I wonder why now how I ever got to where I only nymph about 1/4 of the time. Casting with indicators is definitely sometimes cumbersome but if you've seen my casting you know it's always cumbersome anyway so you can't tell the difference.
I enjoy all aspects of flyfishing, especially the catching part. But truly enjoy the lack of elitism found on the LMF. Years ago my best friend and I both started flyfishing at the same time. The river we trout fished in was full of "elitist". This drove my friend away from the sport and eventually drove our friendship apart also. I just wanted to fish so I just tuned out those that were there seemingly to only to try and impress others. He couldn't stand it.
I fish streamers, emergers, pupas, dries and nymphs and can remember great experiences while fishing with each of these categories. I like seeing a fish working an area and then setting up and catching him. I like just being able to get a rise out of an ol'wily brown on spillway. I've yet to hook him but have got him to take it several times over the months I've gone after him.
I too like to feel the take but I also like to see the take with dries and emergers. But must admit, to me anyway, nymphing is like worm fishing for bass you might nymph up a little stinker or it might just as easily be a hawg. You never know what lurkes beneath.
