Last year while fishing Rim Shoals on the White River, there was a guy fishing 50 ft from me catching rainbows one after another from a little riffle. I asked him what he was fishing with and he said "a caddis." I saw he was using an indicator and thought he was using a caddis pupa. So I put on a caddis pupa and caught two fish in 30 minutes while he was still catching one every few minutes, Later, up on the shore, I asked him about his caddis and he told me he was fishing a #14 dry caddis and was using an indicator because he couldn't see the dry fly in the riffles. He wasn't an old fart like me with bad eyes either - he was in his late twenties. Since then I also have used an indicator with dries when the situation warrants.
