All points well made Jim. But if folks really want to feel their rod load and become a better caster in a single day, they need to cast a good production Bamboo rod. Almost any 8'-6" or 9' Heddon 2F (5wt) is a good start. When casting bamboo I typically don't need to watch my backcast because I can feel it load, that little tug that lets me know when to start my forward cast. I have an 8'Granger that is my main fishing rod. When I cast this rod, I look like I know what I'm doing! It really does cast itself.

If y'all know someone who has a decent bamboo rod, ask to lawncast it and see if you can tell any difference in the way you FEEL the cast.

By the way, I'll be lurking in zone 1 this weekend if anyone wants to cast a nice stick!

Steve
