I am still relatiovely new to fly fishing. Placing the line under my index finger after presentation is no problem. That is second nature now. The problem arises with after the strike, when there is all my slack line in the non rod holding hand. Maybe it is the reel I am useng, but reeling in line that has little or no tension on it results in a mess of line on my reel. So.. I have been trying to use two fingers. My index for the line from rod to fish, and the pinky from the slack line to the reel. The slack stays in between the two fingers. My, this can get complicated as the excitement of that strikes. Often I have release tension on one finger, while tightening the other, but it has been done on the wrong fingers!!

Have you any suggestions to help, or is it just a matter of this novice learning not to get so excited when the strike occurs??
