Good tips, Jim, as always. There is another neat little knot that I learned at a seminar that Lefty Kreh was giving - I think he just referred to it as a "fishing knot" for lack of another name. Basically, he ran the tag end of the tippet through the eye of the hook, doubled the tag end back on itself, drew the tag end a few times around both the looped segment and the standing line a few times, and finally passed the tag end back up through the original loop made by the tag end. Moisten it with saliva, pull gently on the fly and the tag end to tighten the knot, and you're good to go. I really like if for the larger hook sizes, and it seems to hold together for me a little better than even the improved clinch.
