Excellent tip JIm. I attended a two-day seminar on trout entomology at Beavers Bend put on by Rob Woodruff, a fly fishing guide with a degree in Entomology from (ugh!) Texas A&M, and it helped me to much better understand this subject and consequently become a better trout fisherman. (You'll notice I didn't say it helped me catch more fish, just to become a better trout fisherman, heh, heh, heh.)
Rob charges $45 for the two day seminar and he does a great job of explaining the different insects and their life cycles. He also includes several hours of on-stream instruction the second day. His website is www.flyfishingfork.com, and his e-mail is WGSFLYFISH@aol.com.
It was the best $45 I have ever spent!
