The scuds mate pretty early. Late winter, early Spring. Some tie scud patterns with a bright colored egg sack dot i.e.; flouro yellow or pink. But the few pregnant ones that I have collected have egg sacks that are dark gray to more black in color. Either way, the sack stands out since it has any color to it as oppossed to the female's body being mostly clear.
I'm pretty sure sowbugs mate in the Spring but I'll do some checking. They are more "ho-hum" bugs. Not much excitement with them. Whereas scuds change colors when close to death and again when they are dead and like I said before they can swim faaast.
