I was wondering if anyone has fished the Blue River recently. What are the stream conditions and what flies worked?

    Thanks- Ken

Fish the C&R alot. Have had the most luck on red zebra midges and pheasant tails. WB's and black bead head nymphs are working too. The water has been murky in the C&R but fishing well.

I went down on Thursday. Use this link to read about my day fishing at the Blue River:

That's a great report Ken--really like that Beaudex you have on the cane (at least it sure looks like a Beaudex). I need to find one that's MW. My contracted is great but I have to cut he DT 5 line in half to fit in on.

    Ken:
Can you please give me some directions to where you stopped?

Do you know the little store: Scotty's One Stop? You enter the park near there. The 1st big parking area is near the "low-water crossing". You can park there and walk 30 yards to the stream. If you turn right (instead of entering the parking lot), you can actually drive across the stream. If you stay straight (past the big parking lot), the gravel road dead-ends at Campground #2. Park there and walk upstream. There is a good map in the booklet they give out when you buy your license, or you can go to: www.wildlifedepartment.com

    Thanks- Ken

I wanted to fish the Lower Illinois, but they're releasing water almost every day, so I went back to the Blue River since I can do it in 1 day and it's at least a 2-day trip to go to Beaver's Bend. I tried the South Wilderness Area and walked upstream farther than I had ever gone. I saw a lot of big fish on stringers and presume they were left over from the President's Day Fishing Derby. Nothing really going on as far as insect activity. It was slower than when I fished the Blue in December, but the average fish I caught was bigger.
Here's 1 that's still in there waiting for you!
