On all of my trips to LMF I have had the most success on small flies, midge dropers, etc. I'm interested is knowing if larger flies are successful expecially in the summer months. I have a new fly rig that can handle the larger flies such as poppers, frogs, streamers, worms, and such. Will I be wasting time or has anyone had any success with the big bugs?
I have done well with size 6 and 8 streamers. It just depends on the water.....and some days are better than others. Contrary to most folks, I rig my nymph set up with a size 12 at the end of the leader and smaller dropper. There are days that more fish go for the size 12 Pheasant Tail than the dropper. Go figure? Try anything you want, and the fish will tell you what they want. Most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the days on the river.
